Learning Stuff Makes You Flexible

When I first started to practice yoga, I’d get very angry and frustrated pretty quickly. Not only was it physically frustrating, I also didn’t understand the Sanskrit names of the poses. I wanted to be able to go to a few classes and be a pro! I didn’t "get" it that yoga is about practicing and learning and staying open…

Its always new. That never really changes.

My first teacher was about 70 years old. He spent his whole life as a furniture mover. After he retired, he got involved in yoga because he started feeling a lot of physical pain from his job. It was very cool to see this tough-guy, a truck driving guy, telling us about his morning headstands and stretches.

He slowly broke down each yoga pose. For the whole hour we’d work on 1 or maybe 2 poses. We never finished learning a pose, we just kept working at it each week…carefully adjusting and checking things out.

And his patience helped me appreciate the flexibility it takes to be flexible! To learn anything at all. So, when we are starting to change our thinking and habits, we need to be patient and flexible. Keep checking things out. Don’t close down. Manifesting the secret means patience and stepping into something new.
